Malini Vira is an Indian-American artist currently residing in Washington DC. After completing her studies in textile design and English literature, she spent some years painting saris and shawls for a boutique in New Delhi. She spent many years moving from one country to another, each of which influences her artistic style.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I love working with watercolors because I find its unique spontaneity very captivating even though it can be difficult to master. Sometimes there are happy accidents which can enhance the work. Painting keeps me grounded and relaxed. As Picasso said: “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life”. Once I begin painting I completely forget my daily concerns and problems. I paint diverse subjects: from birds to flowers to nature to barns. I try to find beauty in the mundane. My painting style glides from being realistic to a little loose.
